Dóttir Sveins Sigvaldasonar í Árbæ á Sauðárkróki og f.k.h. Ingibjargar Hannesdóttur. Fór til Vesturheims með móður sinni árið 1900, var í Winnipeg til 1912 en síðan í Point Roberts, þar kvæntist hún Sigurjóni Sigurðssyni Myrdal og tók upp eftirnafn hans. Anna átti tvíbura systur sem var alnafna hennar (Anna Sveinsdóttir).
