History
Foreldrar: Árni Magnússon og Baldvina Ásgrímsdóttir á Syðra-Mallandi á Skaga. Ásmundur ólst upp á heimili foreldra sinna á ýmsum stöðum en hóf ungur sjóróðra frá Hofsósi og Drangey, var auk þess sigmaður í Drangey laust uppúr aldamótunum. Eina vertíð réri hann frá Klöpp í Sandgerði, líklega árið 1905, en uppfrá því með Sveini Jónatanssyni á Hrauni á Skaga og Steini syni hans, bæði fisk og hákarl. Sjálfur átti hann tvo báta, skektu og fjögurra manna far. Ásmundur kvæntist árið 1906 Steinunni Sveinsdóttur og voru þau í vinnumennsku í Víkum á Skaga 1906-1907, en síðan í húsmennsku til 1909 að hann hóf búskap á Ytra-Mallandi. Tveimur árum síðar tóku þau við ábúð í Ásbúðum og bjuggu þar til dauðadags. Ásmundur og Steinunn eignuðust fimm börn. Ásmundur átti einnig dóttur með Sigurlaugu Skúladóttur vinnukonu í Ásbúðum.
