Fæddur í Sandvík í Bárðardal. Kenndi víða t.d. í Skagafirði 1890-1900. Var skólastjóri í Bolungavík og stofnaði þar söngfélagið Gleym mér ei og var söngstjóri þess um skeið. Amtsbókavörður í Stykkishólmi 17 ár. Bæjarpóstur á Sauðárkróki í 17 ár. Starfaði mikið að félagsmálum, gaf m.a. úr nokkur sveitarblöð og ljóðabókina Hörpu 1903.
