Bjarni Gíslason fæddist í Eyhildarholti í Skagafirði hinn 8. ágúst 1933. Foreldrar hans voru Gísli Magnússon bóndi í Eyhildarholti, og kona hans, Stefanía Guðrún Sveinsdóttir. ,,Bjarni bjó fyrstu ár ævi sinnar hjá foreldrum sínum í Eyhildarholti, en fór til náms í Héraðsskólann á Laugarvatni og síðar Bændaskólann á Hólum í Hjaltadal. Bjarni var farkennari í Viðvíkursveit á árunum 1956 til 1966 og kennari við Steinsstaðaskóla í Lýtingsstaðahreppi í þrjá vetur. Að því loknu var hann skólastjóri við Grunnskóla Rípurhrepps allt til starfsloka árið 1998. Bjarni var einnig bóndi í Eyhildarholti þar til hann fluttist til Sauðárkróks í ágúst 2000, þar sem hann bjó til æviloka." Bjarni kvæntist 8. ágúst 1966 Salbjörgu Márusdóttur, þau eignuðust fimm börn.
