Biographical history
Björn Egilsson fæddist á Sveinsstöðum í Tungusveit í Skagafírði 7. ágúst 1905. Hann lést á sjúkrahúsinu á Sauðárkróki 2. mars 1999. Foreldrar hans voru hjónin Egill Benediktsson, f. 13.5.1877, d. 23.2. 1960, og Jakobína Sveinsdóttir, f. 15.2.1879, d. 13.1. 1947, búandi á Sveinsstöðum. Björn ólst upp á Sveinsstöðum og var bóndi þar 1935-1945 og aftur 1949-1972. Hann gegndi ýmsum trúnaðarstörfum fyrir sveit sína, var m.a. oddviti Lýtingsstaðahrepps 1968 og sýslunefndarmaður sama hrepps 1971-1978. Hann var kjörinn heiðursfélagi Sögufélags Skagfirðinga 1985 og heiðursborgari Lýtingsstaðahrepps. Hann var ókvæntur og barnlaus.
