Biographical history

Lúðvík Kemp var fæddur í Víkurgerði í Fáskrúðsfirði. Foreldrar hans voru Stefán Árnason bóndi á Ásunnarstöðum, og fyrsta kona hans, Helga Lúðvíksdóttir Kemp. Móðir hans var berklaveik og ólst hann upp hjá fósturforeldrum. Kemp lauk prófi frá Flensborgarskóla í Hafnarfirði 1909 og frá Verzlunarskóla Íslands 1911. Þá réðst hann norður í Skagafjörð. Kvæntist hann þar Elísabetu Stefánsdóttur frá Jórvík í Breiðdal árið 1912. Kemp var bóndi á Illugastöðum í Laxárdal 1914–1947 og jafnframt vegaverkstjóri. Síðan bjó hann á Akureyri í tvö ár en flutti þá til Skagastrandar þar sem hann stundaði skrifstofustörf í mörg ár. Kemp var landsþekktur hagyrðingur á sinni tíð en ekki þótti kveðskapur hans eiga við í fínni selskap.
