History
Fæddur á Bræðraparti á Akranesi. Foreldrar: Tómas Jóhannesson Zoëga og kona hans Sigríður Kaprasíusdóttir. Geir missti föður sinn 1862 og tók þá föðurbróðir hans, Geir Zoëga kaupmaður, hann til fósturs og kostaði síðar til náms. Hann útskrifaðist úr Lærða skólanum í Reykjavík 1878, tók næsta ár heimspekipróf við Hafnarháskóla og embættispróf í málfræði og sögu 1883. Varð stundakennari við Lærða skólann á námi loknu, settur kennari 1884 og yfirkennari 1905. Rektor skólans frá 1914.
