Foreldrar: Sigurður Gíslason b. á Mið-Grund og k.h. Sigríður Þorláksdóttir. Guðmundur reisti bú á Miðsitju 1868-1869, brá þá búi og fór austur á Vopnafjörð til náms í söðlasmíði og lauk þar námi sem fullærður söðlasmiður og stundaði þá iðn samhliða búskap. Bóndi á Mið-Grund 1874-1883 og í Ytra-Vallholti 1883-1919. Kvæntist Guðrúnu Eiríksdóttur frá Djúpadal, þau eignuðust sex börn.
