Foreldrar: Jón Jónsson b. á Fornastöðum og k.h. Kristín Sigurðardóttir. Fór að Hólum í Hjaltadal í kringum árið 1903 til Þóru móðursystur sinnar og Sigurðar Sigurðssonar skólastjóra. Kvæntist Jóni Ferdinandssyni frá Þorleifsstöðum í Svarfaðardal árið 1914. Þau bjuggu í Smiðsgerði í Kolbeinsdal 1916-1919, síðan á bæjum í Þingeyjarsýslu. Hólmfríður var síðast búsett í Akureyri.
