Hrafnhildur Stefánsdóttir fæddist á Hjaltastöðum í Blönduhlíð í Skagafirði. Foreldrar hennar voru Stefán Vagnsson og Helga Jónsdóttir. Fjölskyldan bjó á Hjaltastöðum fram til ársins 1942, er þau fluttust til Sauðárkróks. Hrafnhildur stundaði nám við Barna- og gagnfræðaskóla Sauðárkróks. Hinn 16. febrúar 1957 giftist Hrafnhildur Stefáni Guðmundssyni, þau eignuðust þrjú börn. Hrafnhildur rak um skeið eigin verslun, en lengst af starfaði hún í Bókabúð Brynjars á Sauðárkróki.
