Hinn 10. maí 1940 var Ísland hernumið af Bretum. Um sumarið kom um 50-60 manna flokkur breskra hermanna til Sauðárkróks og hafði þar bækistöð. Myndin er líklega tekin árið 1941. Hafði þá fækkað í liðinu. Herlið var yfirleitt fámennt á Sauðárkróki, yfirleitt ekki nema nokkrir menn sem áttu að verja þorpið. Bæjarlífið fór furðulítið úr skorðum þrátt fyrir þessa heimsókn og fór vel á með hermönnum og heimafólki. Annar frá vinstri í aftari röð er merktur sem Charles
