Foreldrar: Jón Jónasson b. á Flugumýri og s.k.h. Sigríður Guðmundsdóttir. Ingimar ólst upp á Flugumýri og nam barnalærdóm hjá mági sínum, Stefáni Vagnssyni á Hjaltastöðum. Í Hólaskóla fór hann 1928 og lauk þaðan prófi 1930. Bóndi á Flugumýri 1932-1955. Kvæntist Sigrúnu Jónsdóttur frá Vatni á Höfðaströnd, þau eignuðust átta börn.
