Fæddur og uppalinn á Víðivöllum, foreldrar hans voru Sigurður Sigurðsson og Guðrún Pétursdóttir. ,,Gísli útskrifaðist frá Hólaskóla 1906. Hann sat í mörg ár í hreppsnefnd, varð hreppstjóri Akrahrepps 1929 og sýslunefndarmaður 1937 og gegndi báðum þessum störfum til lokadægurs." Gísli kvæntist Helgu Sigtryggsdóttur frá Framnesi, þau voru barnlaus en áttu tvær fósturdætur.
