Biographical history

Foreldrar: Jóns Vigfússonar á Hofi og kona hans Þórdís Jónsdóttir. Vigfús varð stúdent frá Skálholtsskóla 1728. Hann vígðist aðstoðarprestur séra Guðmundar Högnasonar að Hofi í Álftafirði haustið 1734 og varð síðan prestur í Stöð í júli 1737. Maki: Guðrún Jónsdóttir, ekkja eftir séra Högna Guðmundsson prest í Stöð. Þau eignuðust þrjár dætur. Fæddist hin fyrsta, Guðríður, árið 1739 og orti þá prestur Barnaljóðin, eins konar heilræðavísur til hennar. Jón Eiríksson gaf síðan þessi ljóð móðurbróður síns út í Kaupmannahöfn 1780. Önnur útgáfa kom einnig út í Kaupmannahöfn 1838. Séra Vigfús samdi einnig Hugvekjur út af öllum Passíusálmum Hallgríms Péturssonar og voru þær gefnar út í Kaupmannahöfn 1833.
