Biographical history
Fæddur að Sandfelli í Öræfum. Foreldrar: Sveinn Eiríksson (1844-1907) prestur í Sandfelli og kona hans Guðríður Pálsdóttir (1845-1920). Lauk stúdentsprófi frá Lærða skólanum árið 1903 og lögfræðiprófi frá Hafnarháskóla 1910. Um tíma bæjarfógeti og settur sýslumaður á Akureyri. Varð yfirdómslögmaður í Reykjavík árið 1910. Sýslumaður í Víkurkauptúni í V-Skaftafellssýslu. Skipaður sendiherra í Noregi árið 1947. Alþingismaður 1916-1921, 1933-1942 og 1946-1947 fyrir Vestur-Skaftfellinga. Landskjörinn þingmaður 1942-1946. Gegndi ýmsum nefndarstörfum og ritaði margar greinar um sjálfstæðismál Íslendinga og kirkjumál. Samdi einnig bækling um Kötlugosið 1918 og afleiðingar þess. Maki: Guðrún Pálína Einarsdóttir (1890-1981). Þau eignuðust fjögur börn.
