Fædd að Grímsnesi á Látraströnd, Eyjaf., foreldrar: Einar Ásgrímsson síðast b. á Mannskaðahóli og f.k.h. Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir. Hún ólst upp hjá foreldum sínum til 16 ára aldurs er hún missti móður sína, fór 18 ára til föðurfrænda síns, sr. Jóns Hallssonar í Glaumbæ þar sem hún dvaldi þangað til hún fór að Ási í Hegranesi til Sigurlaugar Gunnarsdóttur að nema hannyrðir og hússtörf. Það kynntist hún mannsefni sínu, Guðmundi Ólafssyni, syni Sigurlaugar. Þau kvæntust í september 1889 og bjuggu alla sína búskapartíð í Ási, þau eignuðust átta börn.
