Sonur Gísla Þorfinnssonar og Guðrúnar Jónsdóttur. Bóndi í Miðhúsum á árunum 1922-1966. Jón var vinsæll félagsmaður í öllum störfum. Hann var hreppsnefndarmaður Akrahrepps um a.m.k. átta ára skeið og fjallskilastjóri jafnlengi. Mörg sumur var hann varðmaður við Héraðsvötn á vegum sauðfárveikivarna og í fjölda ára fulltrúi á aðalfundum Kaupfélags Skagfirðinga. Jón var ókvæntur og barnlaus.
