Faðir: Sigmundur Pálsson, verslunarstjóri á Hofsósi og bóndi á Ljótsstöðum. Móðir: Margrét Þorláksdóttir, húsmóðir á Ljótsstöðum. Ágúst fæddist 18. ágúst 1856. Samkvæmt manntali var hann á Ljótsstöðum 1870. Flutti svo til Siglufjarðar 1879 og þaðan til Raufarhafnar þar sem hann starfaði sem verslunarþjónn. Er skráður sem verslunarmaður á Seyðisfirði 1885-87. Réði sig til faktors í Keflavík árið 1887. Virðist hafa drukknað þar.
