History
Jónas Bjarnason fæddist á Uppsölum í Blönduhlíð í Skagafirði 26. mars 1926. Foreldrar hans voru hjónin á Uppsölum, Sigurlaug Jónasdóttir og Bjarni Halldórsson. ,,Jónas ólst upp á Uppsölum við hefðbundin sveitastörf og stundaði vegavinnu á sumrin. Fór síðan til Akureyrar og nam rennismíði í Vélsmiðjunni Atla, lauk sveinsprófi 1949 og hlaut meistararéttindi 1952. Jónas starfaði við rennismíðar allan sinn starfsferil og um rúmlega hálfrar aldar skeið átti hann og rak Járnsmiðjuna Varma á Akureyri, lengst af í félagi við Ívar Ólafsson. Jónas var frá unga aldri stuðningsmaður Sjálfstæðisflokksins og á tímabili virkur í starfi flokksins á Akureyri. Þá var hann lengi félagi í Karlakór Akureyrar. Hin síðari ár var hann ötull félagsmaður Oddfellowreglunnar." Jónas kvæntist 25. desember 1954 Rakel Grímsdóttur sjúkraliða, f. í Örlygshöfn við Patreksfjörð, þau eignuðust þrjú börn.
