History
Foreldrar: Kristinn Björn Erlendsson kennari og smiður á Hofsósi og Sigurlaug Jósafatsdóttir frá Krossanesi. Margrét ólst upp hjá móður sinni á heimili móðurafa síns á Syðri-Hofdölum til tíu ára aldurs en fór þá í fóstur til Soffíu móðursystur sinnar og manns hennar Jóns Skagfirðings. Hún var um tíma við nám í orgelleik hjá Jóni Björnssyni söngstjóra og tónskáldi sem þá bjó í Brekku í Seyluhreppi. Vorið 1929 flutti Margrét til Sauðárkróks og starfaði sem léttastúlka á sjúkrahúsinu. Haustið 1930 fór Margrét í hússtjórnardeild Kvennaskólans í Reykjavík. Árið 1933 kvæntist hún Sveini Sölva Sölvasyni, þau bjuggu alla tíð á Sauðárkróki, þau eignuðust fjögur börn. Margrét starfaði nokkuð að félagsmálum, einkum fyrir slysavarnarfélagið, Kvenfélag Sauðárkróks og verkakvennafélagið Ölduna. Margrét starfaði á saumastofunni Yl, hjá Fiskiðjunni og síðast á saumastofunni Ylrúnu.
