Markús Sigurjónsson fæddist í Eyhildarholti 16. mars 1909. Foreldrar hans voru hjónin Sigurjón Markússon, bóndi í Eyhildarholti og víðar og Sigurlaug Reykdal Vigfúsdóttir, húsfreyja og fyrsta rjómabússtýra í Skagafirði. Markús giftist 1936 Þórönnu Jónsdóttur, þau eignuðust tvö börn og áttu eina fósturdóttur, þau bjuggu á Reykjarhóli í Seyluhreppi.
