Nanna er dóttir hjónanna Rögnvalds Gíslasonar frá Eyhildarholti og Sigríðar Jónsdóttur frá Djúpadal. Hún ólst upp í Skagafirði, fyrst í Djúpadal en síðan á Sauðárkróki. Stúdent frá M.A. 1977. Stundaði nám í sagnfræði um tíma við H.Í. Frá árinu 1986 hefur Nanna starfað við bóka - og tímaritaútgáfu, lengst af hjá Iðunni og Forlaginu. Hefur einnig gefið út matreiðslubækur.
