Foreldrar: Bjarni Jóhannsson b. í Þúfum í Óslandshlíð og k.h. Jónína Dóróthea Jónsdóttir. Sigurjóna ólst upp hjá foreldrum sínum og var hjá þeim allt þar til hún kvæntist Antoni Gunnlaugssyni frá Stafshóli, utan einn vetur, sem hún vann í eldhúsi á Akureyrarspítala. Þau bjuggu á Fjalli í Kolbeinsdal 1917-1922, á Molastöðum í Fljótum 1923-1924, á Sviðningi í Kolbeinsdal 1924-1926, í Ásgeirsbrekku í Viðvíkursveit 1926-1928, á Ingveldarstöðum í Hjaltadal 1931-1932, í Enni í Viðvíkursveit 1932-1935, á Litlahóli 1936-1948. Síðast búsett á Sauðárkróki. Sigurjóna og Anton eignuðust tólf börn.
