Foreldrar: Sigurður Sigurðsson sýslumaður og Guðríður Stefanía Arnórsdóttir. Að loknu skólanámi á Sauðárkróki fór Stefanía í Kvennaskólann í Reykjavík og útskrifaðist þaðan. Hún stundaði skrifstofustörf í Reykjavík, lengst af hjá Vegagerð Ríkisins en einnig hjá Reykjavíkurborg. Stefanía var ógift og barnlaus.
