History
Benedikt Hugmóður fæddist 26. júní árið 1865 á Ljótsstöðum á Höfðaströnd, Skagafirði. Faðir: Sigmundur Pálsson bóndi og verslunarstjóri á Ljótsstöðum. Móðir: Margrét Þorláksdóttir, húsmóðir á Ljótsstöðum. ,,Benedikt ólst upp hjá foreldrum sínum. Stundaði nám við búnaðarskólann á Eiðum, útskr. 1886. Var við bústörf og verslunarstörf með föður sínum. Kennari í Viðvíkurprestakalli 1891-94 og 1897-98. Reisti bú í Gröf á Höfðaströnd 1895 á móti tengdaforeldrum sínum og bjó þar til 1896. Bóndi Þúfum í Óslandshlíð 1896-98, Grafargerði 1898-99. Missti þá fyrri konu sína og brá búi. Fluttist úr héraðinu árið 1900 og fékkst eftir það við ýmis störf, aðallega verkstjórn og verslunarstörf. Var frá 1914 til æviloka kaupm. og verslunarm. í Hafnarfirði."
Fyrri kona: Ingibjörg Björnsdóttir (1875-1900). Þau áttu saman þrjú börn en einungis eitt þeirra komst á legg.
Seinni kona: Pálína Guðmunda Þórarinsdóttir (1867-1933) frá Grásíðu í Kelduhverfi.
