Fædd á Felli í Kollafirði í Strandasýslu. Foreldrar: Arnór Árnason prestur í Hvammi í Laxárdal (1860-1938) og fyrri kona hans, Stefanía Sigríður (1857-1893). Maki: Martin Bartels bankafulltrúi í Kaupmannahöfn. Þau eignuðust eina dóttur. Hún ólst upp í Bæ í Króksfirði hjá þeim Ólafi Sigvaldasyni, héraðslækni þar, og konu hans, Elísabetu Jónsdóttur. Elísabet Arnórsdóttir fluttist eftir lát Ólafs læknis með fósturmóður sinni til Reykjavíkur og bjuggu þær á Bókhlöðustíg 7. Hún fluttist síðar til Kaupmannahafnar.
