Foreldrar: Tómas Jóhannsson kennari á Hólum í Hjaltadal og k.h. Ástríður Magnúsdóttir frá Mosfelli í Mosfellssveit. Faðir Guðrúnar lést þegar hún var fjögurra ára gömul og fluttist þá með móður sinni og systur í Mosfellssveit. Guðrún er söngkona og tónlistarkennari. Stúdent frá MA 1948. Stundaði háskólanám í læknisfræði 1948-1949. Tók einsöngspróf frá New York University 1958 og stundaði víða framhaldsnám í söngfræðum. Stundaði söngkennslu samfleytt frá 1966. Kvæntist Frank Joseph Ponzi listfræðingi frá Dearborn í Bandaríkjunum. Búsett í Brennholti í Mosfellsdal.
