Foreldrar: Guðjón Jónsson og Valborg Hjálmarsdóttir bændur á Tunguhálsi. ,,Guðsteinn bjó til ársins 1991 á Tunguhálsi I og stundaði þar búskap. Flutti þaðan til Sauðárkróks og bjó þar til ársins 1996 og keypti þá Laugardal í Lýtingsstaðahreppi og bjó þar til ársins 2015. Síðast var hann búsettur að Lækjarbakka 11 á Steinsstöðum. Hann var mikill aðdáandi söngs og söng í karlakórnum Heimi og kirkjukór Lýtingsstaðahrepps. Hann var mikil refaskytta og byrjaði á grenjum aðeins 16 ára. Hann vann mikið við vörubílaakstur með búskapnum. Hann gegndi ýmsum nefnda- og félagsstörfum." Guðsteinn kvæntist 31. janúar 1965 Ingu Björk Sigurðardóttur frá Borgarfelli í Lýtingsstaðahreppi, þau eignuðust fjórar dætur.
