Foreldrar: Björn Hafliðason b. í Saurbæ í Kolbeinsdal og k.h. Ragnheiður Sigríður Þorláksdóttir. Haflína var í barnaskóla hjá Sigurveigu á Kálfsstöðum í Hjaltadal og í unglingadeild Hólaskóla veturinn 1929-1930 en veturinn 1931-1932 var hún í Kvennaskólanum á Blönduósi. Árið 1932 kvæntist hún Sigurmoni Hartmannssyni frá Kolkuósi og hófu þau búskap þar. Þar bjuggu þau til 1985 er þau fluttu til Sauðárkróks, þau eignuðust þrjár dætur.
