Fædd og uppalin á Brimnesi, dóttir Símonar Pálmasonar og Sigurlaugar Þorkelsdóttur. Margrét átti frumkvæðið að stofnun heimilisiðnaðarfélags í Viðvíkursveit, sem starfaði þar í mörg ár, og sat í stjórn þess. Margrét skrifaði um áhugamál sín, t.d. heimilisiðnað og fl. í tímaritið Hlín. Margrét kvæntist Einari Jónssyni frá Tungu í Stíflu, þau bjuggu á Brimnesi frá 1896-1926 en fluttust eftir það til Reykjavíkur, þau eignuðust þrjár dætur, tvær þeirra komust á legg.
