History
Samband íslenskra samvinnufélaga (SÍS) var stofnað á Ysta-Felli Þingeyjasýslu 20. febrúar 1902 sem Sambandskaupfélag Þingeyinga en fékk síðan nafn sitt endanlega árið 1906.
SÍS var stofnað upphaflega til að vera samræmingaraðili íslenskra samvinnufélaga og þróaðist síðan yfir í samvinnuvettvang þeirra á sviði út- og innflutnings og til að ná hagstæðum samningum erlendis vegna þess taks sem danska kaupmannastéttin hafði enn á íslensku viðskiptalífi á þeim tíma.
