Fædd og uppalin á Sauðárkróki. Foreldrar hennar voru Magnús Halldórsson beykir og Hólmfríður Helgadóttir saumakona. Kvæntist Friðriki Ingólfssyni árið 1947, þau eignuðust fimm börn, fyrir átti Sigríður einn son. Þau hjón byggðu býlið Laugarhvamm 1948 og bjuggu þar alla sína búskapartíð.
