Foreldrar: Jón Jónsson b. og hreppstjóri á Hóli og k.h. Sigríður Magnúsdóttir. Sigurjón ólst upp hjá foreldrum sínum. Var við smíðanám hjá Þorsteini Sigurðssyni smið en kvæntist um það bil og hætti þá smíðanámi. Sigurjón var ýmist við búskap eða í húsmennsku. Bóndi á Þröm 1892-1893, Bessastöðum 1902-1911 og Varmalandi 1923-1928. Kvæntist Björgu Runólfsdóttur frá Meðalheimi í Ásum, þau eignuðust tvo syni.
