History
Foreldrar: Jónas Egilsson og Anna Kristín Jónsdóttir á Völlum. Sigurlaug ólst upp á Völlum hjá foreldrum sínum. Árið 1908 fór hún í Kvennaskólann á Blönduósi, þaðan sem hún útskrifaðist tveimur árum seinna. Námsárangur hennar varð með þeim ágætum, að forstöðukonan, Rósa Arasen, vildi fá hana sér til aðstoðar við kennsluna. Nokkrum árum síðar var Sigurlaug einn vetur í Reykjavík. Þar stundaði hún vinnu á saumastofu fyrri hluta dags, en seinni partinn var hún vinnukona hjá Sigurði Thoroddsen og Maríu Kristínu Claessen. Árið 1921 kvæntist hún Bjarna Halldórssyni og það sama ár hófu þau búskap á Völlum þar sem þau bjuggu til 1925 er þau keyptu Uppsali í Blönduhlíð þar sem þau bjuggu til 1973. Sigurlaug og Bjarni eignuðust átta börn.
