- ágúst 1895 var haldinn kvennafundur á Sauðárkróki og ákveðið að stofna til félagsskapar á meðal skagfirskra kvenna. 15 konur mættu á fundinn. Meginhlutverk var að stuðla að auknum réttindum og menningu kvenna. Á aðalfundi 1950 var samþykkt að breyta nafni félagsins í Kvenfélag Sauðárkróks.
