Ár 1915, 28 nóvember komu nokkrir menn saman í þinghúsinu í Haganeshreppi í tilefni af því að reyna að stofna lestrarfélag í sveitinni. Til fundarins höfðu boðað Benedikt Guðmundsson, Syðstumói og Guðmundur Jónsson Austarihóli. Með einróma samþykki fundarmanna var svo lestrarfélagið stofnað og hlaut þegar í stað nafnið Mímir. Benedikt Guðmundsson Syðstamói var kosin formaður, Jón Jónasson Haganesvík ,bókavörður og Eirikur Jóhannesson gjaldkeri.
