History
Foreldrar: Jón Jónsson b. í Merkigarði og k.h. Ingiríður Pétursdóttir. Var hjá foreldrum sínum í Merkigarði fram yfir fermingaraldur. Fór þá vinnumaður til Péturs Sigurðssonar b. á Sjávarborg og var hjá honum að mestu, þar til hann reisti bú. Hann gekk í 13 vetur í beitarhúsin á Borgarsel. Bóndi á Kimbastöðum 1884-1909, Borgargerði 1911-1916 brá þá búi og fluttist til Sauðárkróks. Jón kvæntist Guðrúnu Eggertsdóttur frá Skefilsstöðum, þau eignuðust tvö börn. Guðrún lést 1898. Sambýliskona Jóns frá 1902 var Björg Sigurðardóttir, þau eignuðust saman tvær dætur.
