Biographical history
Stefán var fæddur og uppalinn í Torfmýri í Blönduhlíð, sonur Magnúsar Hannessonar og Jakobínu Gísladóttur. Árið 1923 réðst hann sem vinnumaður að Reynistað til Jóns Sigurðssonar, þar sem hann dvaldist til 1937 er hann fluttist til Sauðárkróks. Stefán starfaði mikið fyrir Sögufélag Skagfirðinga og var einn af hvatamönnum að stofnun Héraðsskjalasafns Skagfirðinga. Aðalstarf Stefáns var þó bókband en það vann hann við í rúm 40 ár og talið er að hann hafi árlega bundið 2000-3000 bækur.
Stefán var ókvæntur og barnlaus.
