Hjörleifur Jónsson, f. 02.08.1890 á Gilsbakka í Austurdal. Foreldrar: Jón Jónsson bóndi á Gilsbakka og seinni kona hans, Aldís Guðnadóttir. Bóndi á Gilsbakka 1918-1973. Hjörleifur var vel skáldmæltur og orti töluvert. Árið 1978 kom út eftir hann ljóðabókin Mér léttir fyrir brjósti. Maki 1: Friðrika Sveinsdóttir frá Þorsteinsstaðakoti í Tungusveit, þau eignuðust einn son. Friðrika lést úr berklum stuttu eftir fæðingu drengsins. Maki 2: Kristrún Helgadóttir, þau eignuðust fimm börn saman, fyrir átti Kristrún fjögur börn. Einnig átti Hjörleifur fósturson, Hjörleif Kristinsson.
