Fædd á Vémundarstöðum í Ólafsfirði, foreldrar: Jón Dagsson b. og hreppstjóri á Þóroddsstað í Ólafsfirði og k.h. Anna Stefánsdóttir. Kvæntist Páli Halldórssyni, þau bjuggu í Hornbrekku á Ólafsfirði 1882-1888, að Reykjum á Reykjaströnd 1888-1894 en brugðu þá búi og fluttu til Vesturheims þar sem þau settust að í Geysisbyggð. Jónanna og Páll eignuðust fjögur börn saman sem upp komust, fyrir átti Jónanna tvær dætur.
