Foreldrar: Stefán Einarsson og k.h. Lilja Kristín Jónsdóttir, þau bjuggu í Þröm á Langholti, í Geldingaholti, á Stóra-Vatnsskarði, í Hátúni, í Vík, á Grófargili, á Litlu-Seylu (nú Brautarholt) og loks í Vatnshlíð. Pétur var bóndi á Reykjarhóli 1896-1919 og í Valagerði 1919-1920. Dvaldi áfram í Valagerði hjá systursyni sínum Sölva Sveinssyni. Pétur sat mörg ár í hreppsnefnd og var lengi deildarstjóri Kaupfélags Skagfirðinga fyrir Seyluhrepp.
Maki: Jórunn Björnsdóttir (1830-1890) frá Víðimýrarseli. Þau eignuðust ekki börn.
