Foreldrar: Nikódemus Jónsson og Valgerður Jónsdóttir. Jón fæddist í Holtskoti í Seyluhreppi, elstur sex systkina. Vélsmiður, hitaveitu- og vatnsveitustjóri á Sauðárkróki. Síðast bús. á Sauðárkróki. Kvæntist Önnu Friðriksdóttur frá Akureyri, þau eignuðust fimm börn.
