Jón Pétursson, f. í Valadal 03.07.1867. Foreldrar: Pétur Pálmason bóndi í Valadal og síðar á Álfgeirsvöllum og kona hans Jórunn Hannesdóttir frá Hömrum. Jón var bóndi í Sölvanesi 1889-1890, á Löngumýri 1890-1891, í Valadal 1891-1897, á Nautabúi 1897-1912, í Eyhildarholti 1912-1923, Neðri Haganesvík og Dæli í Fljótum 1926-1930 en fluttist þá til Akureyrar.
Jón var landskunnur hagyrðingur og einn af þekktustu hestamönnum í Skagafirði á sínum tíma.
