Foreldrar: Jóhann Eyjólfsson og Ingibjörg Guðjónsdóttir. Fæddur á Skíðastöðum Laxárdal ytri, sex vikna komið í fóstur til Markúsar Arasonar og Ragnheiðar Eggertsdóttur sem bjuggu þá á Herjólfsstöðum, svo í Holtsmúla á Langholti, að Eyhildarholti í Hegranesi og að lokum á Ríp í Hegranesi. Saman áttu þau ekki börn en ólu Þórarinn upp og voru hjá honum til æviloka. Þórarinn kvæntist árið 1918 Ólöfu Guðmundsdóttur frá Ási í Hegranesi og það sama ár hófu þau búskap á Ríp og bjuggu þar óslitið til 1980 eða í 62 ár samfleytt, þau eignuðust tíu börn.
