Foreldrar: Jóhann Jónatansson b. á Hóli á Skaga o.v. og sambýliskona hans Valgerður Ásmundsdóttir. Sigfríður ólst upp með foreldrum sínum á Sævarlandi, Hóli, Kelduvík og Selnesi. Var í vinnumennsku á Skaga, í Húnavatnssýslum, í Reykjavík, á Akureyri, að Veðramóti í Gönguskörðum og loks á Ingveldarstöðum syðri á Reykjaströnd þar sem hún kynntist mannsefni sínu, Jóni Jónssyni. Þau bjuggu á Ingveldarstöðum syðri á Reykjströnd 1916-1921, á Daðastöðum á Reykjavík 1921-1946 og á Steini 1946-1962. Sigfríður og Jón eignuðust fimm börn.
