History
Foreldrar: Gísli Gíslason vinnumaður á Óspakseyri og Helga Guðmundsdóttir frá Kambhóli í Víðidal. Þegar Guðmundur var þriggja ára missti hann föður sinn, móðir hans giftist aftur Jóhanni Guðmundssyni. Þau fluttust til Skagafjarðar þegar Guðmundur var tvítugur. Guðmundur kvæntist Ólöfu Jónsdóttur árið 1891, þau bjuggu á Hryggjum í Staðarfjöllum 1893-1898, á Hlíðarenda við Sauðárkrók 1898-1900, fluttu til Sauðárkróks árið 1900 og áttu þar heima síðan. Guðmundur og Ólöf eignuðust fimm börn saman. Fyrir hafði Guðmundur eignast dóttur með Helgu Magnúsdóttur frá Breið.
