Tryggingastofnun ríkisins, stofnuð 1. apríl 1936. Varð til í kjölfar félagsumbyltingar í landinu með gildistöku laga um alþýðutryggingar á árinu 1936. Var þá komið á virku almannatryggingakerfi. Stofnunin er framkvæmdaaðili þess kerfis. Er í dag þjónustustofnun fyrir almenning varðandi velferðarkerfið. Hlutverk hennar er að ákvarða og veita tryggingabætur
