Biographical history
Foreldrar: Sölvi Guðmundsson, f. 1806 og María Þorsteinsdóttir, f. 1808. Benedikt missti móður sína í bernsku og faðir hans brá þá búi. Eftir það var hann aðallega hjá Guðmundi elsta bróður sínum sem var bóndi á Skarðsá og víðar. Bóndi á Fagranesi 1878-1883, Ingveldarstöðum 1884-1913. Sat lengi í hrepppsnefnd Sauðárhrepps hins forna og óslitið í hreppsnefnd Skarðshrepps til æviloka, eftir að Sauðárhreppi var skipt. Oddviti Sauðárhrepps 1880-1883, 1886-1889 og 1895-1907. Oddviti Skarðshrepps 1907-1913.
Maki: Málfríður Jónsdóttir frá Dæli í Sæmundarhlíð, f. 13.02.1853. Þau eignuðust einn son.
