History
Foreldrar: Gunnlaugur Magnússon b. í Garði í Ólafsfirði og k.h. Guðrún Jónsdóttir. Jón ólst upp með foreldrum sínum í Garði. Mun síðan hafa átt heima um skeið á Auðnum í Ólafsfirði. Hann hóf búskap að Garði um 1875 og bjó þar, uns hann fluttist að Tungu í Stíflu 1888. Bjó þar til 1898 og á Mjóafelli 1898-1917. Brá þá búi en var kyrr á sama stað. Jón var nokkur ár í hreppsnefnd og réttarstjóri til fjölda ára. Árið 1870 kvæntist hann Guðrúnu Jónsdóttur, þau eignuðust sjö börn.
