History
Foreldrar: Ólafur Sigurðsson b. og alþingismaður að Ási í Hegranesi og k.h. Sigurlaug Gunnarsdóttir. Bóndi Ási 1891-1938, brá þá búi og flutti til Sauðárkróks og dvaldi að Hlíðarstíg 1. Guðmundur rak stórbú að Ási ásamt því að stunda veiðiskap til sjós og lands. Einnig var hann sigmaður við Drangey og ágæt skytta. Starfaði lengi við fjárgæslu og póstbréfahirðingu. Á yngri árum hans var Ás mikið iðnaðnaðarheimili og stundaði Guðmundur vefnað á vetrum. Hann sat í hreppsnefnd í um 30 ár, var formaður búnaðarfélags um skeið, sáttamaður í mörg ár og safnaðarfulltrúi. Einn af stofnendum að rjómabúsins "Framtíðin" á Gljúfuráreyrum í Viðvíkursveit og starfaði að fleiri félagsmálum. Eins var hann fyrsti orgelleikari við Rípurkirkju og starfaði þar lengi. Guðmundur kvæntist Jóhönnu Guðnýju Einarsdóttur, þau eignuðust átta börn.
